Pan's Labyrinth

Directed by: Guillermo Del Toro

Release Date: 2006

Saturday night, movie night - horror movie night! I saw Pan's Labyrinth in the new year of 2007, because this opened New Year's Eve weekend of 2006. Having seen Cronos and El Espinazo del Diablo (The Devil's Backbone) previously, I was looking forward to where Del Toro would go this time.

The Conjuring

Directed by: James Wan

Release Date: 2013

I have never been this petrified during a horror picture in a very long time. Last year while I was in NYC, I saw this with a fellow horror fan. Beside him, I jumped so much. The last time the goose flesh rose on my skin from fear was....maybe The Ring. Yeah, that long.

Carrie (2013)

We Already Know Her Name!!!

Directed by: Kimberly Peirce

Release Date: 2013

Chloe Grace Moretz. Julianne Moore. Judy Greer. Everyone else, who the frak are they? Oh and let's not forget our director, Kimberly Peirce best known for Boys Don't Cry and Stop-Loss. After a TV remake and a sequel, you'd think Hollywood would leave this alone, right? Wrong. Always Wrong.

Bad Kids Go To Hell

A disgrace to even be compared to a gem like The Breakfast Club, this sad excuse for a dark comedy thriller was abysmal.

Never Sleep Again: The Elm Street Legacy

Directed by: Daniel Farrands, Andrew Kasch

Release Date: 2010

Last week, I watched this documentary in two days. I would have seen it much quicker, but ya know, life gets in the way. I recall catching this on the Biography channel or Chiller four years ago and enjoying this as much as all the special features on the extra DVD with the Nightmare series collection. For Freddy fans, this is the ultimate documentary to own and watch over and over again.

Top Ten Stephen King Film Adaptations

Today is Stephen King's birthday! He became 67 years old - only one year older than my father. I'm so happy he's still doing his thing. I could go on and discuss how much his books inspired me but you can read all about it here. What I'll be doing instead is listing my top ten favorite movies based on his books.

The Loved Ones

Directed by: Sean Byrne

Release Date: 2009

A friend lent this to me (fellow horror fan) and the only things mentioned were that the ending was a cop out and that it was a low budget film from Australia. I didn't have an inkling of the plot. Upon watching the movie, I was left with...ennui. Why am I watching horror movies again?

About Horror Films

Today I watched two horror pictures and honestly, watching these made me re-evaluate why I watch them in the first place. My first horror picture was A Nightmare on Elm Street. I was about six or seven years old and I really enjoyed this movie. They used to show it as a Late Night Movie on ABC. For some reason, this movie didn't scare me, but the plot intrigued me. What if someone could take your life while you're asleep? If anything, my creative juices were flowing even then before I knew I was a writer.
