Hellraiser

Directed by: Clive Barker

Release Date: 1987

After claiming to be a horror fan for so many years, I finally rented this film and watched it.  I must say, it spooked and freaked me out.  Clive Barker is a sick man and I want to be Just Like Him!
The story is suspenseful by setting up the portrait of a couple moving into an old house.  Then we are introduced to Julia’s (the wife) memories about meeting her husband’s brother.  The movie explores new territories that are not very common in horror films.  This aspect make the film a treat when Pinhead appears and we understand his existence.
The acting was stellar from British actress Claire Higgins who plays Julia.  Oh the things she does!  The special effects were petrifying and amazing!  His makeup effects guys did a fantastic job.
Overall, I wish that more horror films were made this way.  You know, with silly things like a story (granted it was ambiguous but you were into it!), great effects that were believable, and a decent body count (we don’t all need crazy body counts to be labeled a “horror” movie).  Although the film had some minor faults, it delivered the goods.

If there is ever a work by Clive Barker to watch, this movie, written and directed by him, is the one to see.

The trailer for your enjoyment.
